This lens was a must-have when DSLR's ruled the camera world In this episode of Not Much Else, Frankie looks back at the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM lens.
I highly recommend the Canon 24-105 F4 IS L to anyone wanting a flexible lens for all round general shooting. The 24-70 2.8 is slightly better in terms of low light ability, but taking into account the longer zoom and the Image Stabilizer that the 24-105 brings to the table I think it’s a better choice, especially if you have a fast 50mm for
You can also use this lens with peace of mind if you want to take backlit shots that include the sun in the frame. While I was shooting, the rain suddenly became heavy
Top quality build and optics. Good (but not perfect) range on a crop camera. You will be missing ultra-wide (24mm is like 35 mm on a full frame camera) and f/4 is not ultra-fast. Personally I shoot with primes, nothing slower than f/2.8, but I often use them at f/4 or more stepped down.
Canon USA has today posted a service notice relating to the new EF 24-105 mm F4L IS USM lens. The notice describes a problem which affects some early production samples of this lens where 'unacceptable levels of flare' can occur, mostly at wide angle and maximum aperture. Those lenses with a control number (a serial number beginning with UT) of 999 or less are affected. The notice goes on to
Prior to the release of the Canon EF 11-24mm ƒ/4L lens, the widest full-frame rectilinear lens Canon offered was a 14mm ƒ/2.8L II prime lens; and for a zoom, it's a pair of 16-35mm L zoom lenses.
If you’re not too bothered about being able to shoot at f/2, the Canon 24-70 RF f/2.8 IS USM could be worth a look. It’s lighter and smaller than the 28-70mm, and you get an extra 4mm of focal

The Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Lens focuses very fast, very quietly and very accurately thanks to Canon's excellent Ring USM (Ultrasonic Motor). FTM (Full Time Manual) focusing is enabled. The focus and zoom rings are very nicely sized and turn very smoothly.
In Canon land, it is obviously targeting the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 USM L IS which has been the 1st choice among customers looking for a high quality, full format standard zoom lenses with a slightly longer reach. Interestingly the Sigma lens is just marginally more affordable than its Canon counterpart.
